Dr Torven Schalk

I recently finished my PhD in Psychology. In my thesis I investigated courage and responses to norm violations in society using natural language processing, topic modelling, and mixed-effects modelling. I used archival data spanning 240 years as well as human participant data.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Mathematics at Victoria University of Wellington in 2020, during which I worked with various research groups on drug abuse, cross-cultural psychology, and face perception research. Since completing my degree, I have been working in the area of cyber security. I am now researching cognitive evolution using a causal inference approach.

JohnMark Kempthorn

I’m a PhD Candidate and my research focuses on utilising causal inference methods in longitudinal data to shed light on inquiries in political psychology and human flourishing. My thesis employs modified treatment policy and a natural experimentation frameworks to clarify the anatomy of prejudice during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as to observe the influence of basic human need fulfilment on health and well-being.

Rebekah Senanayake

I am a PhD Candidate in Cultural Anthropology with a MSc in Cross-cultural Psychology and BSc (First-class Honours) in Cultural Anthropology and Psychology. I work with qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research designs. I have won grants and awards for my research. My research currently investigates the function of altered states of consciousness in Peruvian Amazonia, relevant ontologies, pharmocoepia, and cultural evolution.
